Photo: Man kills 12-year-old girl over N800 debt

Chidera-360x225

A 28-year-old man, who claimed to be a naval rating, Mr. Ikechi Okoro, is now on the run after allegedly killing Chidera Timothy with a bottle over an N800 debt his brother owes the girl’s mother.
Twelve-year-old Chidera was a primary five pupil of the Holy Trinity Anglican Primary School in Calabar, Cross River State.

Ikechi’s younger brother, Friday Okoro, has been arrested by policemen from Atakpa Police Station in Calabar where the matter was reported.

Following the arrest, the members of the Okoro family residing at 34, Wilkie Street, have taken to their heels.

I fed Okonjo-Iweala’s mum with bread, groundnuts – Suspect

A member of the 10-man kidnap gang who earlier this month abducted the 82-year-old Prof, Kamene Okonjo, mother of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday, confessed his involvement in the abduction and narrated how he fed the retired professor of sociology with groundnut, water and bread in the kidnappers’ den.

The suspected kidnapper, Andrew Dime, aka Olokpa, 32, who hails from Enikorogha in Edo State, however, told Vanguard that he was only hired by the second-in-command of the gang to supply food to Prof. Okonjo on two occasions at a fee of N100,000.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, on the other hand, told Vanguard that Prof. Okonjo was kept in the custody of the suspect, who was in-charge of her feeding.

The second-in-command of the gang allegedly swindled him when he bolted with his N1 million share of the ransom collected for the release of Prof. Okonjo.

Apparently, to settle scores, the police said the suspect formed a new kidnap gang, which abducted an octogenarian at Aboh in Ndokwa area of the state. But having obtained a database on the group after its leader, Nwaeze Nwosa, aka Bolaji was shot dead in Asaba, the police were able to track down the suspect.

Aduba told Vanguard that the police set a trap for him when it got information that he was in dire need of money for the yuletide by convincing him to sell one of the guns used for the abduction of Prof. Okonjo, which was in his custody. He fell for the trap and negotiated a price of N300,000 for a pump-action gun with a police officer, who posed as a buyer. He was, thereafter, arrested at Koka junction, Asaba, when he came to collect the cash.

Dark-complexioned Andrew, who spoke to Vanguard in an interview, debunked the claim that he formed a new kidnap gang and that he was the one that negotiated the sale of pump-action gun, which was used to ensnare him.

A police source said he was being economical with the truth, adding: “Most of these people (referring to criminals) will never tell you the truth when you arrest them until you get other members of the gang to confront them.”

Below are the excerpts of the interview with the suspect

Davido and manager Asa Asika part ways

As reported by Linda Ikeji

After almost two years of working together, Davido, 20, and his manager Asa Asika, 22, (center) have parted ways. They reportedly ended their working relationship a few days back but none of them have said anything about it yet, though they've both changed their Twitter bios.

I'm trying to find out what really happened between these two as there are a few versions of what led to their break up. One version claims that Asa was dropped because Davido has become too big an artist for him (Asa) to handle. Another version claims Davido assaulted Asa over money.

I don't know the real story but I plan to ask Davido when I see him at Funmi Iyanda's show tomorrow. Stay tuned! Hehe...!

They’re making money as if it’s going out of fashion; controlling assets that are making some oil tycoons want to consider a career switch. They’re living the real celeb life – hopping from private jets to limited edition cars and SUVs.

With minimum earnings about N6.5M per month, and highest incomes nearing N50m per month in some cases, these fab few are raking in the big bucks, and making hundreds of their colleagues green with envy.

[Photos] See The Ripe Single Ladies Of Nollywood

Just like the legendary story of a cobbler’s wife, who does not know when her husband’s payday will be since their source of income is dependent on people’s rough usage of their shoes and, until it goes bad, her husband is not sure of when the next income will come, so it can be likened to the story of these eligible Nollywood hotties.

As the year grinds to an end, the likely question on their minds is when, where and how their spouses will come. They seem to have outlived their single girlhood lifespan on the shelves. They are ripe and very ready. Yet, they are still hopeful that some day, perhaps, in 2013, their Prince Charming will emerge from any corner of the planet.

We present some of the hottest single ladies, who are still searching, not desperately though, looking forward to that blissful day, even as they desire to live happily ever after.

"Dbanj’s Koko Concert Was A Complete Mess" - Disappointed fans vent anger on Twitter

Dbanj disappointed his fans at the concert.

Micro-blogging site, Twitter, was agog with criticism of the end of the year concert by popular Afropop musician, Dbanj, tagged Koko Concert held at the Eko Atlantic Beach, Lagos .

Many of Dbanj’s frustrated fans who took to twitter to vent their anger described the concert as lacklustre and ill-managed.

In the past weeks, the concert has enjoyed a lot of hype in the media and was one of the most expensive musical concerts in the country. Some fans paid as much as N1 million to attend the concert which also has Hollywood actor Idris Elba; America rappers, Pusha T and Big Sean; as well as Nigerian-born British rapper Tinnie Tempah; on parade.

Fans were particularly disappointed by Dbanj’s performance. Many of them who went to the concert hoping to hear him perform some of his popular tunes were heartbroken as the musician chose to perform his most recent tunes that many have problems relating to.

“Dbanj does not have any song to sing.. Terrible. Let tomorrow come first,” said a fan tweeting from the handle @RicDizZle.

“Sing Suddenly or Mogbonofelifeli if you know say e sure for you!” @RicDizZle continued referring to some the musician’s popular tunes.

Dbanj, who is used to a mimed performance, had problems adjusting to performing to a live band, some attendees said.

“I think Dbanj is the worst performer of the night #kokoconcert. Easier to perform with a CD. Live performance no be beans [not easy],” said a fan tweeting from the handle @ebraheemshehu

“I have a lot of respect for #Nigerian artistes who perform with a live band but i don’t think #Dbanj killed it today. #kokoconcert,” said Fidelis Mbah, a reporter with the BBC.

“That’s not a live band, just a bunch of confused electricians,” said another fan tweeting from the handle @TheBlackHermit.

Insulted fans

His woeful performance aside, many of fans, who stayed awake all night to see him perform at the concert and those watching the live stream of the event on NdaniTV, said Dbanj’s worst blunder of the night was when he said: “The people wey pay me money na dis side dem dey” (those that paid me are on this side) while apologising to those at the VVIP section of the concert for below-par arrangement made for them. At a point he even asked those at the popular and VIP sections to apologise to those at the VVIP for the inconvenience they suffered.

Fans at the popular section and VIP paid 5,000 and 20,000 respectively. Many of his fans who felt insulted reacted sharply:

“Disgusting that he only keeps apologising to VVIP. The 5K ticket holders are the real fans and the ones promoting his music . Shame,” said a fan tweeting from @Rebl_jade.

“Dbanj needs to stop acting the fool with this VVIP thing. So rude!” said @EniolaHundeyin

“And he had the nerve to ask the 5k & 20k people to aplogise to the VVIPs. I say it, the concert was an allegory for Nigeria as a whole,” said Tola Sarumi tweeting from @AfroVII.

“Only in naija (Nigeria) you pay for something and STILL get insulted. Customer appreciation? Absolute zero,” said a fan tweeting from @kennagq

A complete mess

From tiresome trek along the sandy beach, inadequate parking space, to Dbanj’s fake American accent, the general perception was that the overpriced concert was a failure.

“The worst day of my life! Dec 29th, Koko concert. Despite d negativity, I managed to hold my head up nd stay positive! Home now..#NeverAgain” said eccentric Channel-O presenter, Derenle Edun.

“Call me a hater but Dbanj is too big of an artist to be putting out mediocre shows like that!! #kokoconcert,” said @natashamutale

“This guy better not be planning to drop any album soon. People will refuse to even bootleg it,” said Tome Buluku tweeting from the handle @IamTome.

“There’s def no koko concert next year sha. Not with this crap,” said Yemi O tweeting with the handle @mimio193

“D’Banj speaks like Igbo man from Iweka Road now,” said Onyeka Nwelue.

“@iamdbanj sold more VIP & VVIP tickets than d no of seats available..we had to hustle for seats..pathetic,” said Tokunbo Otitoju tweeting from the handle@fimiletoks

“In Koko Concert, Money can’t buy class. LOL. 1M for table no mean you no go do endurance trek to and fro,” said @Shimoshi1.

Okonjo-Iweala's Mother's Kidnapper Arrested In Bank,Family paid N40m ransom

Operatives of the State Security Service, SSS, have arrested six of the abductors of Prof. Keneme Okonjo, mother of the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala.

Okonjo, wife of the Obi of Ogwuashi-Ukwu, Prof. Chukwuka Okonjo, was kidnapped on December 9, 2012 at the palace of the traditional ruler.

However, through concerted efforts of the combined security agencies in the country, the victim was released on December 14.

But in a bid to unravel those behind the kidnapping, arrests were made by the police, Army and men of the SSS.

Last week, 63 of the suspects earlier arrested by the Army were released unconditionally when their culpability could not be established.

A competent source at the SSS told National Mirror yesterday that six of the real suspects had eventually been arrested in Asaba, Delta State, and might be flown to Abuja today.

The source also confirmed that a N40m ransom was actually paid for the release of the 82-year- old retired professor of Sociology.

Explaining how the suspects were arrested, the source said: “The N40m, which was paid to the kidnappers was marked money from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

“What happened was that the money was paid on Wednesday by our men and by Thursday, two persons had gone to the Nebisi Road branch of an old generation bank to deposit N15m out of the money.

Because it was marked money, they were promptly arrested. “Our men were able to track four of the kidnappers with the aid of thetwo persons. Right now, we are on the trail of the remaining four suspects.

“The six suspects are supposed to be brought to Abuja tomorrow (today) to face further interrogation.”

Asked why the operatives were not able to arrest the suspects the time they came for the money, the source explained: “Don’t forget that as at that time the woman was still with the kidnappers and they could decide to kill her if they suspect anything phony. “Our major concern then was to ensure that the woman regained her freedom and was not harmed in any way.

In fact, that was the point the minister kept hammering to us. “She said that we should do everything possible to secure her mother alive, even if it meant paying whatever ransom the kidnappers asked for.

“If you know how this is done, once they came for the money, we knew that the game was up for them. We knew that we must get them unless they would not spend that money in Nigeria.”

Okonjo-Iweala had shortly after her mother release said that the abductors were unhappy with the administration of the fuel subsidy and SURE-P programmes.

Okonjo-Iweala, who had recounted what her mother told the family after her ‘miraculous’ escape from the den of the dare-devil abductors, said: “I can’t give all the details because we don’t want to compromise ongoing investigations. “But I can tell you one thing: My mother suffered a great deal during this ordeal.

It was only the Almighty God that rescued her from a situation that could very easily have ended tragically. “Apart from the emotional trauma of being violently taken away from her family and kept incommunicado for five days in a strange environment, a woman of 83 years was left without food for five days. “We give glory to God that she is alive today to tell the tale.

While she was in their custody, the kidnappers spent much of the time harassing her.

They told her that I must get on the radio and television and announce my resignation. “When she asked why, they told her it was because I did not pay oil subsidy money. They also said I had blocked payment of money to certain components of the SURE-P programme.”

Clergy Impregnates Friend’s Wife After Friend Suffered A Stroke

A 65-year-old Zimbabwe man is accusing his Muslim clergy (Sheikh) of being responsible for his second wife’s pregnancy after a long illicit affair between the two.

Cabo Juma, a Muslim devotee of Mozambican origin who suffered a stroke in 2006, bitterly complained that the sheikh, Nordine Banda of the church’s Dangamvura parish in Mutare has been in love with his wife, Jessica Chiweshe, for a long time and his efforts to seek redress within the church yielded nothing.

Juma said the affair led to the irreparable damage to his matrimonial relationship. Apparently, the two (Sheikh Banda and Juma) were very close friends at one time.

When contacted for comment, both his wife and Sheikh Banda dismissed the allegations.

“I really do not want to comment much on the issue and I think the chairman of the church is the one who can give you a comprehensive comment. I will not say much about the prevailing situation because I know the truth will soon be out. They are saying I impregnated her, but I know I am innocent. His aim is to have me removed from this place or else get me fired from the church, but all along I thought it will not get this far,” said Sheikh Banda.

In a separate interview, the woman in the centre of the storm, Jessica Chiweshe, doubted her husband’s mental stability.

“These allegations are a mere smokescreen meant to conceal the real issue at play. It has all to do with the politics in the church whereby at one point some people did not want the pastor while others stood by him. I happened to belong to the faction that supported the pastor. This is where it all started and later, my husband became so abusive to the extent that I sought refuge at the pastor’s place and that fuelled suspicion that I was going out with the pastor, but that was not true. In any case, if you managed to talk to Cabo Juma, do you think he is mentally stable? Since he suffered a stroke in 2006 he has not been the normal man I knew all along. I think the only thing that I have to do is to go to court and get a peace order against this man,” said Jessica before she declined to answer more questions.

When the Dangamvura Islamic Society chairman, Juma Yard, was reached for comment, he said:

“I am the chairman and have the powers to fire the pastor if he is wrong. If he is guilty of sleeping with anyone’s wife then he should be fired, but the problem is that we do not have any evidence to support the allegations. According to the Islamic law (the Shariah law), there is supposed to be convincing evidence for action to be taken against the perpetrator, but in this case there is no evidence,” he said.

However, in wide ranging interview last week, Juma, who is hardly fluent in Shona, maintained that the pastor and his wife were in love.

“I am deeply hurt that my sheikh, who also happened to be my friend at one point, could do this to me. It all started as rumours way back and I did not want to believe it. I started hearing about it when I was in hospital after I suffered a stroke. At times I would hear that the pastor visited my place without my knowledge and it appears he would take advantage of his knowledge on my whereabouts. He would invite my wife every Saturday to do the cooking at church unlike other women who were NOT invited personally.

“For example, on 27 March this year, when this issue became known, I lied to him that I was leaving for Sakubva, Devonshire where my first wife stays. He came to my second wife’s place, right at our bedroom window around 10.30pm and called my wife while disguising his voice. I pretended as if I was asleep and my wife (Jessica) abruptly woke up, almost unclad and went straight to open the door for him. She must have given signs that I was around, but I was already angry about the whole thing and I told them right away that I didn’t want to see the pastor again at my place.

“I also immediately banned my wife from going to Mozambique and Harare for business trips because that is where they would occasionally accompany each other. I know the pastor could be one responsible for Jessica’s current pregnancy since I am not the one. I’m no longer interested in her,” he said

See President Jonathan`s Christmas Message To Nigerians

Dear friends,

I want to seize this opportunity to

wish you and your loved ones a
merry Christmas and a happy
New Year in advance.

I feel the pains of Nigerians and

that is why this yuletide period I
have personally instructed that
our roads should be worked on
to enable you and your loved
ones travel safely for the holidays
knowing that this season brings
with it the highest volume of
traveler traffic of the year.

This administration also made

sure that most of our airports
received a facelift with the
terminals rehabilitated and the
runways upgraded.
Not done, we ensured that for the
first time in decades, the cross
country services (Lagos to Kano
with stops in cities along the
route) of the Nigerian Railway
Corporation (NRC) were revived
just prior to the holidays to
provide Nigerian masses with an
inexpensive alternative to road
and air transportation.
Nigerians traveled on these
coaches which took them from
Lagos to Kano beginning on
Friday the 21st of December,
2012 at a very affordable rate of
1,500 Naira, with stops at many
cities along the route.

This administration also took

steps to increase power
generation by remaining true to
the Timelines of the Roadmap to
Power Sector Reforms which has
seen history made on Friday the
21st of December 2012, when
Nigeria’s power generation hit an
all time high of just over 4,500
MW which I know is still not good
enough, but which nevertheless
is an improvement of what we
met on ground to the end that as
many Nigerians as possible can
celebrate the holidays with power
in our homes and communities.

I reaffirm to you that, God willing,

Nigeria will witness a better year
in the coming year.
Once again, on behalf of my
family and I and the government
of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,

I, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,

wishes every Nigerian a very
Merry Christmas and a most
prosperous and Happy New Year.

In rather mysterious and unclear circumstances, five teenagers have reportedly drowned yesterday in Anambra state. The children, four boys and a girl went swimming for fun in the Omambala river at Umuezeanam, Anambra west, where they were later allegedly found to have drowned.

Four of the victims who are from the same family including the girl among them, and their friend, had travelled with their parents from Lagos to the village for the Yuletide celebrations when they met their untimely end on Christmas Eve.

See How Kidnappers Used Rape to Force Nkiru Sylvanus To Pay Ransom

Fresh facts are emerging with regards to the kidnap of Nkiru Sylvanus:

“Initially, the family paid N7million to the kidnappers and the police who laid ambush swooped on them at the point of collection and recovered the money that was locked in the trunk of their car as they escaped...
“After we returned the money to the family, they went behind us and paid N8milliom to the kidnappers. Surprisingly I saw Nkiru in my office after she was released, and I was told they paid N8million to secure her release”.

Those were the words of the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Baba Adisa Bolanta, while frowning at the decision of the actress' family to pay ransom to her kidnappers against police warnings.

However, from what credible sources said, the Police boss didn't really understand Nkiru's predicament in the hands of her abductors. They said her family was forced to defy the police and pay ransom to the kidnappers "when the issue of rape came in".

The kidnappers allegedly "tampered" with Nkiru and even threatened her family that they would impregnate her if the ransom was not paid "immediately". At this stage, the sources said, the actress family was no longer sure the Police could rescue her unhurt, hence they paid N8million.

At the moment only a few persons know about the rape angle of the kidnap saga. More details coming....

Lagos State Government demolish N100million PFMI church

There was uproar at Afero village on Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos, as officials of the Lagos State Government demolished a sprawling church, the Pure Fire Miracles Ministries International (PFMI) in a controversial manner.

Lagos Task Force men, accompanied by officials from the Ministry for Physical Planning and Urban Development (MPPUD), stormed the church to enforce an eviction ordered by the government.

The ministry demolished the building over allegation that there was no approval for the construction of the building.

Osaze wants to be Eagles captain — Keshi

Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has dropped a bombshell by saying Osaze Odemwingie had proposed himself as team captain.

Keshi told a stunned Nigeria Football Federation technical committee that the West Bromwich Albion striker put himself forward to be the Eagles skipper.

“He told them that he wants to be captain as he considers himself one of the most senior players in the current squad,” an official revealed.

“But how he has behaved in the national team over the years has really run counter to his ambition to be the leader of this team. You can only lead by example.”

The 31-year-old Osaze made his Eagles debut in 2002, but it was not until the 2004 Nations Cup that he established himself in the national team.

Goalkeepers Vincent Enyeama and Austin Ejide as well as defender and present skipper Joseph Yobo are older than Osaze in the Eagles.

However, he has rowed with national team bosses, from Austin Eguavoen to Lars Lagerback, and his clash with Samson Siasia was widely regarded as one of the problems that caused Nigeria to sensationally fail to qualify for the 2012 Nations Cup.

It is such poor attitude that has now denied him a fifth Nations Cup appearance.

In the meantime, the Eagles coach has said he wishes to run the rule over shock invitee Rabiu Ibrahim who has failed to establish himself at Celtic.

Ibrahim has only managed a handful of games in his second season at Celtic Park and has yet to be capped by Nigeria at full international.

“Keshi said he has watched Rabiu in a couple of cup games and will want to have a closer look at the midfielder in Faro, Portugal,” a top official told MTNFootball.com

The gifted Ibrahim has held out a lot of promise since he featured for the Golden Eaglets in 2007, but he has yet to establish himself in Europe ever since.

This will be his second Eagles call-up as he was also considered for the 2010 Nations Cup, but opted out as he had just undergone a groin operation.

Some top officials also took an exception to the continued invitation of Italy-based midfielder Obiora Nwankwo, saying he is sluggish and brings very little to the team.

However, Keshi stood by his decision, insisting that the Olympic team skipper is tactically disciplined.

Baby Girl Born With Skin Covering Eyes (PHOTOS)

Ten-month-old Liaoliao was born with skin covering her eyes.

Only about one hundred patients in the world suffer from the condition called cryptophthalmia (It is a rare congenital anomaly in which the skin is continuous over the eyeball with absence of eyelids).

When Liaoliao was born this February, her family faced the shocking news that her eyes were covered with skin, and she had no eyelashes or eyebrows.

As a result, the family were apprehensive about sharing the news of Liaoliao's condition with their neighbors in their village in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. However, her family soon realized that Liaoliao could interpret light. She would always face the sun when taken outside and rubbed her eye sockets when the indoor lights were turned on.

With a glimmer of hope, Liaoliao's family turned to the Xiamen Eye Center of Xiamen University, which had experience with cases of this kind dating back to 2007.

After an operation on November 23, Liu Zuguo, director of the Xiamen Eye Center said that at present, Liaoliao's muscles are unable to support her eyelids while certain components within her eye have not formed fully.

Therefore, the next operation will focus upon improving Liaoliao's visual recovery. Just over a hundred people worldwide are born with the condition where skin covers their eyeballs and the success rate for treatment is extremely low.

PSY's Gangnam Style music video hits 1billion views on Youtube

South Korean pop sensation, PSY, has done something no other artist has ever done before. Yesterday Friday December 21, 2012,  PSY's music video for Gangnam Style exceeded 1 billion views on YouTube, becoming the first video to ever do so in YouTube's history.

Google reports that Gangnam Style sees about 7 million views a day... no small feat from a man who was a complete unknown Stateside just a few months ago.
"Honestly, when I made this video I didn't even expect 1 million views, because this is off my sixth album in Korea, so I just hoped it would be huge there," PSY recently told MTV News. "I didn't even think about any other countries; I just did my job and waited and watched. And, you know, today, I'm still wondering and analyzing its success. Because I've done this thing many times, this dance, this album, this video ... this one just became something else entirely."

Fear of the world ending today 21st December, have forced people to live in obscure places.
