Fatal accident in Oyo, Seven killed, 17 injured


SEVEN people, including two policemen, lost their lives while 17 were severely injured in various  auto crashes which occurred  last weekend  in different parts of Oyo State.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Sanya Adeoye who disclosed this to reporters,  said  some of the accident occurred on Lagos-Ibadan expressway as well as Igboora-Iseyin road in Ibadan North East Local Council area of the state.

Adeoye said the accident along Ibadan-Lagos expressway occurred at Kilometer 18 and it involved two vehicles, a Toyota Highlander Sport Utility Vehicle marked LJ 39 KJA and a Toyota Camry car marked APP 36 KA.

According to him, eight people were involved in the accident out of which six people were injured. The Toyota Highlander, he stated, lost control after one of its tyres got burst and ran into the Toyota Camry car.
Also, the FRSC Apata Unit Commander, Mathew Cyril Zango who confirmed the Igboora-Iseyin road accidents, said five persons lost their lives while 10 were injured.

He said that the unfortunate accident occurred at Maya Village, about 26 kilometers from Igboora, and it involved two vehicles, a Mitsubuishi Station Wagon with registration number SV 119 KJA and a Peugeot 504 with registration number AJ 613 GWA (Abuja).

He attributed the accident to over speeding and reckless driving, adding that the drivers of both vehicles died on the spot.

The acting Police Public Relations officer, (PPRO) in Oyo State, Daniel Oboyi, confirmed that two policemen were among the dead victims, while another one was on danger list.
