AAU shuts down as students die.

Authorities of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, on Friday ordered the closure of the school, following a students’ protest sparked by the death of two of their colleagues and the injury sustained by five others.

The deceased and five other survivors, who are in a critical condition at the Irrua Specialist Hospital, were said to have sat on a well, which suddenly collapsed.

SATURDAY PUNCH learnt that the incident, which occurred at about 9 am at the Kudirat Hostel, jolted the community.

One of the new graduates of the institution, Sandra Iseh, said the well caved in under the students as they bantered on the ground floor of their one-storey campus hostel accommodation.
Iseh, a graduate of computer science, could, however, not confirm whether or not the deceased were brought out dead from the well or died at the hospital.

The school authority, which confirmed the incident, however, said no death was recorded.
