The
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has named the three deadliest highways
in the contry. This was made known by the FRSC’s Public Education
Officer, Mr. Jonas Agwu, during a media briefing in Abuja.
According
to Agwu the Lagos-Ibadan expressway records the highest number of road
traffic crashes in the country. The FRSC spokesman also identified
Kaduna-Zaria and Abuja-Lokoja roads as second most deadliest and third
respectively. He thereby warned motorists and other road users to have a
change of attitude towards lessening the spate of crashes in Nigeria.
Generally,
the FRSC spokesperson noted that “Lagos-Ibadan, Benin-Ore,
Ogbomosho-Ilorin, Lokoja-Abuja, Enugu-Otukpo and Kaduna-Zaria are
crash-prone routes.”
He
also announced that the FRSC will suspend traffic rules enforcement
between September 10 to 14, for a week-long intensive nationwide safety
awareness campaign, appealing to motorists and other road users not to
use the period to violate traffic rules. In his words, “As we sheath our
swords in terms of no booking, from Monday to Friday, motorists should
not see it as avenue to drive and phone.”
