The police have confirmed the death of 16 persons in the bomb blasts that rocked three churches in Kaduna on Sunday.
A
breakdown of the figure showed that nine persons, including the
suspected suicide bomber, died at Christ the King Catholic Church, three
persons at ECWA Church and four persons at Shalom Church.
The
Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, had ordered
massive deployment of conventional and riot police units in every part
of the state including the highways.
In
addition, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of ‘A’
Department, Suleiman Fakai, who is also the DIG coordinating Police
operations in North-West Nigeria, has been directed to move to Kaduna
where he is coordinating police operations.
A
statement by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, in
Abuja on Sunday stated that some parts of the state recorded a momentary
breakdown of law and order as angry youths took to the streets to
protest the unfortunate attacks on the churches.
“The Police and other security agencies have however restored normalcy in the affected areas,” it said.
The
police also warned criminal elements who had been carrying out
campaigns of violence against innocent Nigerians and institutions to
desist forthwith.
The
polcie warned that the force and other law enforcement agencies would
not sit back idly and watch them put the lives of innocent citizens at
jeopardy.
The
statement quoted the IG as expressing concern over the spate of attacks
on churches in some parts of the country, adding that he had promised
to collaborate with other security agencies to bring an end to the
attacks.
