Five teenagers die in crash

Five secondary school students lost their lives in an auto crash on Wednesday in Kano metropolis.
Sympathisers expressed shock while some shed tears as the victims identified as 18 years old, Ibrahim Mohammed, Musa Sule (17), Musa Mohammed (16), Zakari Adamu (15) and Ismail Mohammed (12), all died instantly.
 
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the Peugeot 406 which the pupils boarded crashed at Dan Hassan junction along the Eastern bye-pass on their way to Hotoro quarters in the metropolis.
He added that one of the teenagers, Ibrahim Mohammed (18), drove the ill-fated vehicle.
According to him, Mohammed had lost control somewhere along the Eastern bye-pass while heading towards Hotoro quarters.

He said the car somersaulted several times before it crashed into a ditch. “Rescue effort by good Samaritan paid less to the revival effort as they were found stone dead in the ditch,” the eyewitness told our correspondent.

He revealed that three of the five victims of the accident were children of a Jigawa-based medical doctor.
The two others, he added, were kids of his friend and next door neighbour in Dakata quarters in Nassarawa Local Government Area in Kano metropolis.

Police Public Relation Officer, Kano State Command, Rilwanu Muhammad, confirmed the tragic incident.
He said, “The victims are all secondary school students. “The ill-fated vehicle was coming from Naibawa, heading towards Hotoro quarters, when the driver lost control and the car somersaulted several times on the road.

“As a result, Ibrahim Mohammed, Musa Sule, Musa Mohammed, Zakari Adamu and Ismail Mohammed, all of Dakata quarters sustained severe injuries and were confirmed dead at the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital where they were all rushed to for medical attention.”
