Olivia Norton was given less than two hours to live after she was born with such a low haemoglobin count it could not be classed as ‘blood’ A six-month old baby girl has survived against the odds despite being born with no blood.
“Miracle baby” Olivia Norton was born with such a low count of haemoglobin, the chemical that carries oxygen in red blood cells, that it could not officially be classed as ‘blood’.
The tot was given less than two hours to live after she was born ghostly white but was saved after undergoing emergency transfusions.Mum Louise Bearman, 31, first noticed something was wrong when the baby didn’t move for three days.
She and partner Paul Norton went to Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford, where she was given an emergency caesarean.
Olivia was born on September 10, five weeks early and weighing 5lbs 3oz.
Speaking of the moment she saw her baby “white as a sheet”, Louise told Daybreak: “I didn’t know what was happening.
“She had one transfusion but I didn’t see her until the next morning.
“She was born pale and floppy and they resuscitated her.”
