A 23-year-old insane man, Akande Waliyu, on Monday, committed suicide in Koso area, Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, just as another suspected ritualist was burnt to death for allegedly being in possession of human parts.
The deceased, the Nigerian Tribune learnt was brought from Okeho in Kajola Local Government Area of the state to Iseyin for treatment.
He was found hanging to a Mango tree which was about 10 metres high.
He was brought to an herbalist identified as Baba Fali at Ologede Compound for treatment for the past one year.
The herbalist said the deceased was brought to him for mental care and had been responding positively for over a year.
Most of the people who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune on the incident expressed shock.
In another development, a middle-aged man from Oyo town was lynched on Monday evening, burnt to death at the same Koso area of Iseyin by mob for allegedly being in possession of human parts.
The deceased, the Nigerian Tribune learnt, had asked a motorcycle operator to come inside his room to collect his fare when the said “okada” operator saw two amputated human arms in the room.
He was said to have raised the alarm which drew the attention of people outside.
On sighting the human arms, the people pounced on the man and set him ablaze.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olabisi Okuwobi, who confirmed the incident, said that the deceased was insane.
She said that he escaped from where he was receiving to go and hang self.
On the suspected ritualist, she said that he was burnt to death by the people for being in possession of human arms.
He said that the situation became rowdy and when the people saw policemen coming, they thought the police were coming to rescue him; hence they prevented them from getting to scene of the incident.
Okuwobi warned against people taken laws into their hands, saying that the police would not hesitate to charge people arrested for extra judicial killings in the state.
According to her, such people would be arrested and charge for murder.
