Cult War Claims 3 Lives In Ilorin


Cultists went on rampage in different parts of Ilorin, capital of KwaraState, yesterday killing at least three persons while five others sustained injuries.

Meantime, the police command has arrested two persons in connection with the development, while investigations are still ongoing.

The incidents, Vanguard gathered occurred around Adewole, Gambari, Aduralere and Mubo areas of the city.


The incident was said to have started last Friday at an unnamed drinking joint in Mubo street with the killing of a middle-age man working in a barbing saloon at Lajoorin street. He was reportedly killed with a machete.

This incident led to reprisal attack with another killing between Gambari and Adewole areas.
Also a five-man gang believed to be cultists reportedly chased a rival gang member to Ipata area of Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.

The incident created panic within the densely crowded Ipata market as the cultists shot sporadically into the air while chasing their target who was eventually captured and shot to death.

 Vanguard gathered that the confusion continued around 8: 00 am yesterday, prompting many residents to run for their lives. The last victim, simply called Gani, was a 30-year-old, according to sources.

He was shot in the neck around 9: 00 am by his attackers who were said to be fully armed with dangerous weapons.

An eyewitness said the victim who used to live at Aduralere was chased from his area to Ipata area where he was gruesomely murdered.

Vanguard also gathered that the body of the victim soaked in blood was evacuated by mobile policemen, who were swiftly drafted to the scene to bring the situation under control.

Contacted, the police spokesman, ASP Femi Fabode, who confirmed cultists attack in Aduralere area said two persons have been arrested while investigations were on to fish out other suspects.

The police spokesman said: “I’m only aware of the incident at Aduralere. Two persons have been arrested and we are still investigating”.
