Parading the suspect before newsmen, the state Director of DSS, Mr. Bassey Ettang, explained that Usman was identified by high profile suspects in their custody.
He said: “In tradition with our promise to keep Kano State abreast of events, we are happy to inform the public that we have arrested one Ayuba Usman believed to be chief supplier of explosive materials to a terrorist group in Kano and beyond.
”Ayuba Usman is a native of Dala Local Government Area of Kano State and he is an explosive merchant.”
He further stated the arrest was effected following a painstaking effort, after series of lead and confession by “terrorists” on procurement process of combustive materials exploited for making Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs.
Ettang also said that the chemical in question was among the exclusive list of controlled materials, adding that most of the recovered items were highly inflammable.
He added: “Chemicals of this nature are controlled items for economic use and we have been able to establish a link that the suspect in our custody supplies same for production of IED’s.”
He said that robust investigations had commenced to burst the ring of those involved in the circle of violence with the intention of bringing them to justice.
Ettang however, commended the people of Kano State for their cooperation so far on ‘’war on terror’’ stressing that “our operations in this war are intelligence-driven.”
